Light painting is a captivating photographic technique where you use handheld light sources to “paint” light onto a scene during a long exposure. It’s about transforming the night into a canvas, creating ethereal effects, and capturing photos that are both artistic and otherworldly. This hands-on program will equip you with the skills to create your own stunning light paintings.

Program Starts: Light Painting Overview

Discover the essential techniques and creative approaches to successful light painting. We’ll cover:

  • Gear & Setup: Learn about the most effective light sources (flashlights, LED panels, etc.), camera settings (long exposure, aperture, ISO), and essential equipment (tripods, remote shutter releases).
  • Basic Light Painting Techniques: Explore fundamental methods like “painting” with a single light source, using multiple lights, creating light trails, and working with different colors.
  • Overview of Stations: Hear about the various stations that have been set up to practice at.

Outdoor and Indoor Activity Stations: Hands-On Light Painting! Put your newfound knowledge to the test at our interactive stations. This is your chance to:

  • Station 1: Indoor Model – Experiment with creating dynamic light effects in the dark using moving light sources around a model.
  • Station 2: Indoor Light Trails – Form patterns with varying colored lights in motion.
  • Station 3: Outdoor Illuminated Vehicles – Practice lighting stationary vehicles (possibly including a firetruck if it is not called into use!) from different angles to create dramatic effects.
