The Bird Photography Leaders and Learners Group spent a great day on May 25, 2025 out photographing birds. Flagpole Members starting the day’s adventure joining Katie, the leader, were Adam M., Christine, Colleen, Margaret, Marion, Rhonda, Sandy and Sue. The Bent of the River Audubon Center in Southbury was the initial meeting spot for the group where songbirds greeted them with beautiful calls as they posed to have their photos taken! Well, some posed, and some were a bit more shy.
After several hours enjoying the beautiful grounds and photographing the abundant number of birds, Katie lead the way to another nearby spot to look for a few more birds there.
The next stop was a pond in Newtown where a green heron’s nest was found but the herons were not on the nest or spotted while the group was there. From there it was off to Happy Landings Open Space in Brookfield where Bobolinks kept the group entertained with a display of mating rituals before the group outing concluded.
Rather than heading home, Chris, Colleen, Rhonda and Sandy decided to grab some lunch and then make one more final stop at the Holcombe Hill Wildlife Preserve in Newtown where they were treated to several more birds they hadn’t seen yet in the day.
The following photos highlights some of the birds they encountered and some of the behind the scenes of the day.
