Members of the Flagpole Photographers Camera Club, Darrell, Rhonda, and Chane, embarked on a picturesque outing to the Midsummer Fantasy Renaissance Faire on Saturday, June 28th. Despite an early morning light rain shower that dampened the grounds before the faire’s opening, the day quickly brightened, offering a wealth of photographic opportunities.
The trio immersed themselves in the vibrant atmosphere of the faire, capturing the intricate details of the many cosplayers and cast members who brought the fantasy world to life. One highlight of the day was the “Falconry Girl” birds of prey show. The educational and visually demonstration provided some photo opportunities until one of the magnificent birds decided to take an unscheduled flight, soaring off into the distance. Club members hoped for its safe return. The “Harmless Danger Juggling Show” also proved to be a crowd-pleaser, with its humorous and entertaining antics providing ample subjects for memorable shots.
As the afternoon sun intensified, the group decided to head home. On the return journey, Darrell led them to a known wildlife spot along the Housatonic River near the Stevenson Dam. Darrell pointed out the Bald Eagle Nest and places to photo it feeding for it’s young. The photographic excitement didn’t end there, as an Osprey suddenly dove into the river, emerging triumphantly with a fish in its talons โ a spectacular moment for any photographer.
The outing was a success, offering a delightful mix of medieval fantasy and the natural beauty of Connecticut’s wildlife
