Learning at our Hands-On Photography Workshop Day

What a perfect day it was for being outside and capturing some amazing photos! The sun was shining brightly on Saturday, May 3rd as enthusiastic learners joined Flagpole Photographers leaders Chane, Rhonda, and Melissa for our annual hands-on workshop, hosted at Newtownโ€™s beautiful Pleasance Park and the scenic Sandy Hook Center.

We kicked off the day by diving deep into the fundamentals of our cameras โ€“ whether DSLR, mirrorless, or smartphone โ€“ focusing on understanding exposure (aperture, shutter speed, and ISO). Then, we explored powerful composition techniques like the rule of thirds, leading lines, framing, perspective, and how to creatively use depth of focus. Everyone had a fantastic time getting hands-on opportunities, putting theory into practice, and getting creative with their shots.

After a lunch break, the learning continued. The afternoon session focused on essential post-processing skills. Participants learned how to polish their images using popular software like Adobe for basic adjustments and explored a little creative editing. It was a inspiring day of learning and photography while capturing the beauty of our town!
