Flagpole Photographers and Town Players Receive Commission Grants
Flagpole Photographers and Town Players have each been named recipients of $1000 grants from the Newtown Cultural Art Commission, it was announced this week by Laura E. Lerman, chairman of the Commission.
Funded by the proceeds of the Newtown Arts festival, the grants are available to a Newtown Artist or cultural organization based in Newtown.
Flagpole Photographers will be using the grant to acquire more display materials at the Municipal Center, which hosts media exhibits of all kinds throughout the year. Additional hanging material will add more exhibitor space for use by any artist, according to Rhonda Cullens, Exhibit Chair. It will also enable Flagpole Photographers to add exhibitor space for the organization at other venues.
Town Players, which presents plays at the Little Theater on Orchard Hill Road, will be using its grant to rebuild and recover stage surface at the theater, according to Pam Meister, Chairman of the Board.
Now in its 80th year, Town Players is the oldest cultural organization in Newtown.
As part of their grants, both organizations will have a presence at the Commission tent at the Arts Festival September 19th & 20th, at Fairfield Hills and services of the Newtown Cultural Arts Commission Publicity Committee for the year they are grant recipients.
