Program – Action Photography with Newtown Bee Sports Editor Andy Hutchison
Visitors are welcome to attend this free event.
Join the Flagpole Photographers Camera Club for an exciting educational program focused entirely on Action Photography! Whether you’re a seasoned photographer looking to refine your skills or a parent wanting better photos from the sidelines, this session is for you.
Andy Hutchison has been the Sports Editor at the Newtown Bee since 2008. His responsibilities include reporting on games, feature writing, and photography. When not on assignment he enjoys spending time with family and playing organized hockey and soccer.
As the person responsible for capturing the highlights of local sports, Andy possesses a wealth of practical, real-world experience in action photography. He routinely photographs athletes in motion under diverse and often difficult conditions – from dimly lit gymnasiums and unpredictable outdoor weather to fast-paced swimming events. Anyone who follows Newtown sports has likely seen Andy’s skillful work freezing key moments and conveying the energy of the game. His role involves not only taking compelling photos but also selecting the best images for publication, giving him a unique perspective on what makes an action shot truly stand out.

Sports Editor To Present Photography Tips At Flagpole Photographers Meeting April 10
Calling all sports parent photographers – If you are interested in gaining some insight and tips for enhancing your action photography skills, including angles, working with dim lighting, camera settings, and more, the Flagpole Photographers Camera Club will have a meeting devoted to action photography on Thursday, April 10. It will take place at Newtown Senior Center, 8 Simpson Street, beginning at 7:30 pm. The public is welcome and there is no charge.
Newtown Bee Sports Editor Andy Hutchison will be the guest speaker/presenter and will share examples of photos published and not published in the paper along with what to look for when photographing a fast-moving sporting event. There will be hands-on learning after the talk and a question and answer session.
Note: The Bee accepts submitted photos for publication consideration (send to andyh@thebee.com with Newtown athletes identified and details on when and where the game was played with final score). Attending this presentation may provide photographers with tips that will help them capture photos that are more likely to be considered for publication.
