Workshop Activities
- Location: The Pleasance, 1 Main Street, Newtown
9:00 AM – Session 1: Photography Fundamentals (Outdoor)
|
- Focus: Achieving sharp photos (holding steady) and exploring composition (varying angles, height, distance).
- Location: The Pleasance area
9:30 AM – Session 2: Controlling Focus (Outdoor)
|
- Focus: Learn how aperture affects depth of field (how much is in focus) and its impact on composition.
- Drive to Sandy Hook Center (approx. 2 miles).
- Meet: Parking Area near 7 Glen Road, Sandy Hook
10:30 AM – Session 3: Capturing Motion (Outdoor)
|
- Focus: Using shutter speed creatively to freeze or blur motion depending on the scene.
- Location: Sandy Hook Center area
11:00 AM – Session 4: Creative Photo Challenge
|
- Activity: Put your new skills to the test with a photo “Treasure Hunt.”
12:00 PM – Lunch Break (On Your Own)

- Options: Explore local Sandy Hook eateries OR bring your lunch to eat at the Senior Center.
- Activity: Review your morning photos and choose your favorite 3 to share.
- Tip: Feel free to practice food/detail shots during lunch!
1:00 PM – Session 5: Photo Review & Editing Basics (Indoor)

- Location: Newtown Senior Center, 8 Simpson Street, Newtown (Room: Studio 1)
- Activity: Share your selected photos. Watch and learn as instructors review images and demonstrate editing techniques for print and social media using participants’ photos.
